5 Tips to Get Your Groove Back and Beat Nursing Stress

I get asked all the time by busy nurses – “David, I’m burned out and tired. How do I beat stress in nursing and get the heat back in my life? How do I start feeling good again?”

Nurses, here are 5 tips for you to get your groove back:

  1. Make Time to Feel Sexy
You have people constantly demanding your attention and expecting you to be caring and cheerful at every moment. That is definitely stressful! You may be walking around disheveled and sweaty because you have been on your feet working for 12 hours straight. Despite being tired and exhausted from work, you need to take one night a week to dress up in your sexiest outfit and go out on the town with your friends, your significant other or your spouse. That’s going to remind you that, apart from being a nurse, you’re still a beautiful sexy person.
  2. Take a Break During the Day
Whether it’s during a shift or on one of your days off, you must find time, every day, to take 15 minutes of personal time for yourself. Make this part of your daily routine, whether it’s sitting on the porch by yourself to enjoy a sunny day or taking a quick break to chat and having a drink with a coworker. This will do wonders for your attitude and your energy, and it will help you get through those tough shifts.
  3. Wear Casual Clothes That Make You Feel Sexy
Even though you’ve had a tiring work week and feel like wearing your most comfortable clothes, take the time to start wearing casual clothes that make you feel sexy!Don’t just save your favorite pair of jeans for your night out. Wear them, even for running errands! Wear flattering outfits when you go to lunch with your friends, when you go shopping or out for a movie, and when you are around your special someone – even if you’re not going out.

If you invest in flattering workout clothes, as opposed to lose t-shirts and funky sweats, you will feel more motivated to get in shape and will feel better about yourself while working out. Wearing things that make you feel sexy – even when you’re exhausted and feel like just slipping on that same old pair of sweatpants – will remind you of the sexy person you are.

  4. Keep an Eye on Your Posture and Exude Confidence
No matter where you are or what you are doing, try to walk straight with your shoulders back. Even if you feel like you have some pounds to lose and aren’t perfectly happy with your body, keep your head up, shoulders back, and own that figure!

It’s a powerful thing to feel good about yourself every day, and you don’t have to have a small figure to be awesome! Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes, and what will make you feel beautiful and will show others your beauty, is having confidence and being happy and comfortable with yourself. Little things like posture and wearing clothes that flatter will really help you forget all that stress you deal with in nursing.

  5. Create Your Own Piggy Bank and Save Your Income
Every day, throw the spare change that you collect into a “piggy bank”. Don’t spend the change throughout the course of the day. If something costs $2.31, don’t reach into your purse for two dollar bills and 31 cents in change. Give the clerk $3 and put the change into a savings jar. Then, at the end of each month, take the money and buy yourself something special. Get a massage, get your nails done or buy yourself the latest “must have” product from Sephora. Some months there will be more, and some there will be less. The important thing is that the savings will allow you to spoil yourself once a month with an extra treat.
