6 Summer Skin Care Tips for Travel Nurses

Just because your travel nursing assignments require a lot of moving around doesn’t mean you should forget about your skin – even if you’re just driving in your car. Remember to keep yourself fresh this summer by following these skin care tips.

1. Don’t forget the importance of sunscreen.
You’ve heard it over and over again, sunscreen is important. However, many travel nurses seem to forget about this basic skin care rule. When you’re in the rush, you may often forget this step. To make sure you never forgo this anti-aging and cancer preventing essential, buy makeup that comes with sunscreen built in. Or, better yet, find one that is travel-size so you can simply keep it in your bag.
2. Invest in a good cleanser for face and eyes.
You will often face new situations with new co-workers. That combination of stress, sweat, and summer sun could make anyone’s skin breakout. A cleanser for face and eyes is essential to remove your makeup at the end of the day and purify you face to keep it clean and fresh all summer long. You might feel the strain at work, but it doesn’t have to show.
3. Ease your eyes: use an anti-aging eye cream day and night.
Aside from remembering the importance of sunscreen and using a cleanser for face and eyes, one of the best things a travel nurse can do to protect her skin is use an anti-aging eye cream. It doesn’t matter how old you are, applying an anti-aging eye cream will combat wrinkles before and after they start. During the summer, it’s even more important to be using eye cream – the sun is fierce, and you might find yourself squinting more than usual. Keep them protected!
4. Bring a water bottle to keep hydrated.
You might have reminded your patients to keep hydrated, but don’t forget about yourself! The heat and sun can be harsh on your skin, and although moisturizers will help on the outside, it’s important to treat it from the inside as well by drinking enough water. Besides, all those caffeinated drinks you use to get through long, grueling shifts aren’t exactly helping you stay hydrated, quite the opposite, so remember to bring a water bottle.
5. Use a lip gloss that contains sunscreen.
Although scrubs tend to have a unifying effect on hospital staff, But, you can stand out a little with your makeup! Use a long lasting lip stain to keep those puckers pretty all day, and that way you don’t have to carry around or reapply the color. It’s easy to find a lip gloss with SPF and to carry it around with you throughout the day, so as you reapply your gloss, you’ll also be protecting your lips from UV rays.
6. Exfoliate often.
When it’s hot, your pores tend to open up, your skin dries out, and your face gets shiny. Make sure to exfoliate. This way, you can get rid of all the dead skin cells and reduce the size of your pores. You’ll be thankful you did it once you see your smooth and glowing skin. Don’t just exfoliate your face, either. Use a body scrub to work out your elbows, knees, and feet.

 

Although travel nurses might feel like they don’t have time to worry about their skin, it’s hard to care for others if you’ve forgotten about yourself. By using these tips to care for your skin this summer, you’ll not only feel healthier, you’ll also look radiant. You’ll thank yourself later in life for hydrating and remembering to apply and reapply sunscreen throughout the day!
